96 Things That Changed My Life: McDonald's

gabedorta

I get made fun of a lot for loving McDonald's. I feel like that is the popular thing to do these days. The truth is, McDonald's isn't good for you, but neither is Taco Bell, or Chick-Filet or any fast food restaurant. A meal at Mickey D's can run you about 1200 calories, but a meal at any sit down restaurant can easily run you double the amount. McDonald's is easy to attack because of it's success, and for being the face of fast food. You can all hate, all you want, but I will never turn my back on this wonderful restaurant, that has been there for me my entire life.

McDonald's 1990's Justice League Toys

I still can remember my mother surprising us and taking us to McDonald's when we were children. It was a pretty rare treat to go to this fast food giant, but when we did, I'd always get the 4 piece chicken nugget happy meal. I loved pizza growing up, but to go to a place where you got a toy included with your meal... how could you possibly beat that?!

McDonald's 1990's Tiny Toon Toys

When Batman Forever came out in 1995, it quickly became my favorite movie. My mom made sure to get us every collectable glass. I remember it being a real big deal, and each of these are currently in my cabinet. Thanks mom.

I do want to give an honorable mention to Burger King, because they really did try their best to rival McDonald's. I mean BK did have the Whooper going for it, and the Burger King Kids Club, but they really couldn't match the amazing toys that McDonald's had to offer.

Unfortunately, we were not able to get all of the Disney collectables, but mom really did try her best on that one.

My brother's favorite toy-line from McDonald's

We moved to Puerto Rico in 1996, and fast food was WAY more prominent there than in New York. Nothing made me more excited to see Ronald sitting at a bench in Walmart. To be in department store with toys and come across my favorite restaurant... what more could a boy ask for.

McDonald's was my safe heaven

When I turned 17 I began to look for a job. Apparently, no place was eager to hire someone with part-time availability and no work experience. I had three friends at high school that worked at the McDonald's by Waterford Lakes. One of them got me and interview and I was hired on the spot. I worked my ass off at that location and won crew person of the year 3 out of 3 years. I worked at that McDonald's for 7 years, and took me through High School and my Bachelor's degree at College.

I was the fastest table assembler in all of our Jonco owned locations.

Me playing foosball with Elsa, the lady who made the eggs in the morning. I often wonder if she is still alive.

Probably the best thing about McDonald's is the Coke. Coca-Cola is my favorite drink of all time, but McDonald's Coke is the best Coke you can have at any restaurant.

In closing, McDonald's is an amazing fast food experience, and we should be thankful for the amazing childhood memories that it provided, and for the top notch french fries and cola.
